BENEFIT FOR RAWA
(Revolutionary Afghan Womens Alliance) Lush Glendale, Dec. 17, 2001
(Glendale News - part of L.A.Times) by Paul Anderson
Singer/Songwriter Lisa Johnson and more then a dozen female artists will come together Sunday in a benefit concert for the Afghan Women's Mission, the American branch of the Revolutionary Assn. of the Women Of Afghanistan (RAWA).
As Johnson sees it, the concert is a chance for her to act globally.
The concert is being presented by FemMuse a Los Angeles based female musicians network founded six months ago by Shredmistress Rynata. There will be acoustic and electric segments, as well as a speaker from the local office of RAWA
FemMuse founder Shredmistress Rynata said she wished there was more time to organize the event, but the group believed waiting until January or February just didn't seem right.
"The time for this is really now", she said. "Part of the vision for FemMuse is to do benefits for women around the globe, so this is our starting point. And it's great to have performers who are willing to jump in to help".
Originally from Duesseldorf, Germany, Rynata came to the United States to pursue a musical career. She came south to Los Angeles from San Francisco and the rock guitarist has been busy ever since.
Performers include: Lisa Johnson, Shredmistress Rynata, Lauren Adams, Glamazon, Ali Handal, Sheryl Clapton, Kimberly White, Mary Coppin, Sanayia, Mara, Kathryn Grimm and others.
